Shopping in Roswell

shopping in downtown roswell ga

Boutiques, furniture and home stores, old school candy shops, antique and vintage finds, plus art galleries dot Canton Street, making Roswell a destination for the whole family. While there’s no shortage of stunning shops and galleries, we’ll mention just a few places we love:

You’ll like the free-spirited vibe of Southern Style. This full-service gift shop offers home goods, accessories, and apparel in a setting that’s uniquely Southern and decidedly eclectic. Not too far up the street is Spirited, offering “wearable art” in the form of statement clothing and locally designed jewelry. If you’d rather see art than wear it, head over to Raiford Gallery where a two-story, sunbeam-soaked gallery space showcases over 400 artists from the U.S. and Canada. We highly recommend walking up and down Canton Street and popping into any shop or gallery that catches your eye.

Roswell Dining

Roswell is a foodie destination able to please any palate. After an afternoon of shopping, you can relax at a sidewalk cafe, pick a spot for a family dinner, or experience fine dining the Southern way. To narrow it down, we’ve chosen a few of our favorites:

Adele’s on Canton

Right next door to Raiford Gallery is Adele’s on Canton where New Orleans’ chef Marc serves up authentic Cajun cuisine and melt-in-your-mouth beignets. If you need coffee to go with those beignets, head over to Crazy Love Coffee House to enjoy a hot cup or an iced latte.

Start your historical tour of Roswell at the Roswell Visitor Center. Grown from 479 residents in 1870 to over 88,000 at the 2010 census, Roswell is still going strong as a lively community and offers the best examples of antebellum homes in the region. Be sure to take the Southern Trilogy tour. The tour ($18 for adults and $15 for children) includes three impressive homes:

Barrington Hall

When Roswell King, founder of Roswell, settled in the area, he and his son Barrington built this home on the tallest point overlooking the town. It’s known as one of the finest examples of Greek Revival architecture in the country and boasts the only antebellum garden open to the public in the metro Atlanta area.

Bulloch Hall

Home to Mittie Bulloch, the mother of beloved President Theodore Roosevelt, this historic home showcases exhibits honoring the African American contribution to the city of Roswell.

Smith Plantation

This 300+ acre plantation, built by the slaves of Atlanta transplant Archibald Smith, has been preserved carefully and still displays the Smith family’s original belongings. Tour the home to see the parson’s room and 10 original outbuildings, including slave quarters and a spring house.
